DAVE BAYARD has been in publishing for 40 years, as a salesperson, ad director and publisher, with experience in financial, health, consumer and agricultural markets. Dave’s broad publishing experience includes managing sales and editorial staffs, magazine marketing, research (MRI, MARS and custom), circulation and production. Dave has also provided consulting services to magazine publishers in his areas of expertise and has been a speaker at several industry events.
Dave has his BS from The Ohio State University (go Bucks!) and lives with his wife, Heather, in Wantage, NJ.
DOUG JONES was a BOJA founding partner in 1997. His 40 years in the business include management experience in virtually all publishing disciplines, from editorial and production to marketing, circulation and advertising sales and ad sales management. Doug has managed publications in a wide range of industries, including medicine, construction, marine, insurance and accounting.
A graduate of Brown University, Doug lives in Fairfield, CT, with his wife, Meg. Doug has also been a youth soccer and basketball coach and Scout leader, and has served on several Fairfield commissions and the Representative Town Council and is currently a justice of the peace.
RAY TOMPKINS has been in publishing since he was in high school. Working his way out of the mailroom, Ray has been a regional manager, ad sales manager, associate publisher, publisher and group publisher in his 40 year career. Ray started as a publishers’ rep in 2001 and currently represents Tech Briefs and EPS News in the Southeastern United States and Texas.
Ray has a BA in Economics from The University of Connecticut. Married for almost 40 years, Ray has three children, six grandchildren and is a major sport’s fan and enjoys life every day.
LAURA LEMOS worked in real estate sales before joining BOJA in 2011. Laura started handling an east coast territory for Wines & Vines magazine has since taken a lead sales position, at the request of her publishers, for the trade magazines she handles.
Laura has a BA degree in Psychology and Public Health from Simmons College, where she graduated in 2010 with top honors, and lives in Livingston, NJ with her husband and two children.
PARTNER EMERITUS
MARSHA TABB retired in 2016 after a 30 year career in advertising sales with industrial directories and periodicals, new homes publications, retail/tourist magazines and trade associations. Marsha’s forte while working for publishing companies was startups – she cut her teeth launching new territories for a new homes publication and went on to launch two very successful annual directories for a pair of Pennsylvania home builders’ associations. Marsha is unique among BOJA partners in also having had ad agency experience.
Marsha, who has her BA from Temple University in Spanish, resides in Bucks County, PA, with her husband LeRoy.
IN MEMORIUM
JAMES ERNEST OOT passed away in August of 2017 after a four year battle with cancer. Jim was one of the co-founders of BOJA and had been in publishing for 35 years as a salesperson and advertising director for leading publications in retail, consumer electronics and robotics prior to retiring in 2014.
Jim was raised in Syracuse, NY, and attended Ohio State majoring in Business Administration and Marketing. He was active as a volunteer for several local and regional non-profits in and around “New Jersey’s high country,” including having served as the Grand Knight of the Boonton Knights of Columbus and as President of the PTO of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Boonton. Jim remained in good spirits throughout his battle and his courage and faith serves as an inspiration for all who knew him.
